How much does a Swiss Army knife weigh?
7.7 oz · 0.48 lb
range 180–250 g
This page is about the thick multi-layer kind, the one with a dozen or more implements stacked into the handle. The one on our bench weighed 217 grams. If yours slips onto a keyring, see the note below — that is a different object and weighs a tenth of this.
Weight scales with the number of layers riveted into the handle, not with the brand or the main blade: each added layer — scissors, a saw, pliers, a corkscrew — is another slab of steel and another pair of liners. Counting layers along the spine of the handle predicts the weight better than anything else you can see. The smaller models in the same line are far below the range on this page. A two-blade keyring knife is around 25 grams and a mid-size pocket model with a handful of tools around 100 grams. A knife described only as "a Swiss Army knife" could be any of the three, so a model name or a layer count is worth more than the name alone.
